Outdoor Burning Restrictions in Effect

The annual outdoor burning restrictions are in effect from March 15th through May 14th. These annual restrictions prohibit the burning of brush, grass or leaves during this time period in an effort to reduce the incidences of out of control grass and brush fires which can lead to significant property loss as well as injuries to responding firefighters.

Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries

The Canton Fire Department wants to remind everyone to take the opportunity to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors when you change your clocks for Daylight Savings Time this evening. We also recommend that you check the date of manufacture on your smoke detectors as well. Smoke detectors have a limited effective life and should be replaced every 10 years. House Fire in Pyrites

On Thursday January 15, Canton Fire/Rescue and Pyrites Fire were dispatched at 0500 to a reported structure fire at 38 Churchill Street in Pyrites.
Due to the extreme cold, several departments were requested for mutual aid assistance. Potsdam, DeKalb, Hermon, Russell, Pierrepont, Rensselaer Falls, West Potsdam, Richville, And Gouverneur fire departments all were activated for response.
