House Fire in Pyrites

On Thursday January 15, Canton Fire/Rescue and Pyrites Fire were dispatched at 0500 to a reported structure fire at 38 Churchill Street in Pyrites.
Due to the extreme cold, several departments were requested for mutual aid assistance. Potsdam, DeKalb, Hermon, Russell, Pierrepont, Rensselaer Falls, West Potsdam, Richville, And Gouverneur fire departments all were activated for response.
The fire was difficult to extinguish as it had made its way into the roof, which had several layers of roofing under metal roofing.
Members of the SLC Fire Investigation Team responded and the fire was ruled accidental, and likely due to an overheated woodstove pipe.
