Remember to Shovel Out Your Neighborhood Hydrant

It seems winter is going to finally arrive in Canton and for much of the North Country tomorrow, December 12th. The National Weather Service is predicting up to 10-inches of snow over a 24-hour period. Canton Fire and Rescue would like to remind village residents to shovel out the hydrant near your home. The village takes every effort to do this, however, with the amount of snow predicted they may not be able to get to them timely. Please see the attached picture showing the recommended diameter to be shoveled. We ask for a minimum three-foot radius around the hydrant with a clear path to the road. This will allow us to hook a large diameter hose to the engine with less time and effort. The time you spend now clearing a hydrant will save us precious time in the event a house in your neighborhood is on fire. Thank you for your continued support and be safe during this winter weather event.
