Canton Fire was disptached at 1430 hours to assist Canton PD in the Family Dollar parking lot at 2 Main Street. The PD advised that they were on scene of a suspected mobile meth lab in a backpack at that location. The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) was on scene to dismantle the one pot operation. Crews staffed a charged hoseline to protect the troopers as they rendered the container filled with hazardous chemicals safe and collected evidence. The operation was completed without incident and the fire department returned to service at 1525 hours. The discovery of the mobile meth operation was part of an ongoing case that had begun earlier in the day on Riverside Drive. Our appreciation goes to the officers of the Canton Police Department for their diligent investigative work and discovering the hazardous operation before it caused harm to the public.
