Car vs. Bridge On Cowan Road

At 11:19 AM, Central Dispatch was notified by Hannawa Falls 13-1 of a 1 vehicle MVA on Cowan Road, near the Wood Chop Shop. Canton station acknowledged immediately and Assistant Chief Kroeger was enroute to the scene moments later. Rescue 1, chauffeured by Assistant Chief Cary was enroute 3 minutes after dispatch with a fully staffed crew. Initial report was a truck into the guide rail of the bridge on Cowan Road with vehicle on fire.

The fire was extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher prior to CFD arrival Hannawa Falls Fire personnel who were at the Wood Chop Shop at the time of the incident. The driver, the sole patient, was tended to by Sheriff's Department personnel, Canton Rescue EMT’s and a member of Potsdam Rescue that was passing by prior to arrival of Canton Ambulance 132. Ambulance 132 was returning from a previous call as it had been a busy morning for Canton Rescue already. The patient was stabilized and subsequently transported by Canton Rescue Squad to CPH. The St. Lawrence County Highway Department was contacted due to the extensive damage to the bridge guide rail. Johnson Towing and Recovery, with a 3 truck crew responded to the scene to stabilize and remove the vehicle. Canton Fire personnel handled traffic control and debris removal and cleanup. All units were back in service at 12:40.
